Affordability

The Club is a CASC and in accordance with HMRC rules, where a member is on a low or modest income and cannot afford to pay more than £520 a year, the member may apply to the Club to make provision for the member to fully participate.

These provisions include a discount on the cost of hiring an aircraft (an Ikarus c42) so as to enable a member to fully participate in the sport and activities of the club by flying up to 15 hours per year for less than £520, including membership and instruction. This provides members who are training with flights of 30 to 45 minutes of duration and so comprise 20 to 30 days of participation with the necessary continuity to their training. For those members who are qualified, the 15 Hours of flying enables them to satisfy the Civil Aviation Authority minimum requirement of six hours for the maintenance of a certificate of experience in respect of a UK National Private Pilot’s License.

All members can participate in those activities of the Club that enable members to fly. These include the activities directly connected to flying; ground school training and related examinations, planning of navigation exercises and landings away, preparation and inspection of aircraft for flight, assisting with the safe manoeuvring of aircraft out of and into the hangar and flying as crew or a passenger with other members. In addition, there are the voluntary activities upon which the club depends that include; aircraft refueling, the manning of the airfield fire truck, daily runway inspections, aircraft and hangar cleaning, assisting with the maintenance of the facilities of the club and the airfield, attendance and voting at Club meetings and supporting events such as fly outs and fly ins and social events.

Please download the membership application form to apply for membership under these provisions, the implementation of which is subject to audit by HMRC.
